This body of work has developed in relation to the research I've been doing as I pursue my MFA. The subject; the "Elk" is an icon that I've appropriated because of it's recognizability amongst certain regional social groups. The Elk exists as both a point of entry (for the viewer) and a point of departure (for myself). The subtext involves an inquiry pertaining to gender-specific roles; particularily within rural cultural traditions.
